Each modifier and intensifier you use, your sentence structure, and the symbolism you use will show your tone. Therefore, everything written has a tone. Mood is how a piece of writing makes you feel. While tone and emotion are different writing devices, they are often very related. For example, it would not be unusual for a poem with a magnificent tone to have a sense of depression — that is, to make the reader feel bad. And as we mentioned above, a journalist who jokes about a politician is likely to express how they feel about their story using a sensitive tone while trying to persuade their readers to feel the same way — that is, to create an atmosphere of anger or resentment.
