Why work at zumiez
Zumiez is a very fun and welcoming environment and we care so much about our customers and employees, my favourite thing about working at Zumiez is that it feels like home my staff is amazing in everything they do and have grown to be some of my closest and most valued friends.

Zumiez is such a terrible place to work barely any hours, managers steal your sales and give their 1 item sales to you and talks bad on employees in a group chat stay away from the Guildford location. Toxic sales culture, the complete opposite of the lifestyle it is emulating. If you are not a Type A aggressive and competitive corporate shill, this is not the company for you.
You're only as valuable as your last big sale and it is made clear frequently by all levels of management that you are not valued, that they are doing you the favour of employing you, and that you will be replaced as soon you as stop performing. Pros Good employee discount for part-timers. Cons Unachievable sales goals, zero support from upper managment, views employees are completely replacedable. I would recommend working here if you are young, and passionate about skateboarding and clothes.
Pros Commission, no dress code, store discount. I had a good experience with my team at Zumiez till about the last week working. As i found out they stop giving you hours the week before your three month is up there and replace you. I never got a letter from them formally saying i was being let go, just stopped getting hours without notice. They do this with all Employees that are not managers. Cons 3 month max employment.

They also do not have realistic sales goals for a Northern Ontario city, it was very stressful to try and reach your daily goal - the longer your shift was, the higher the expectation to earn was. A really terrible company dressed up as a fun experience for young people.
Really only worth working there for discounts on shoes, skateboards and longboards. Yes There are 1 helpful reviews 1 No. Zumiez is amazing. A typical day is regular retail business as usual.
I learned how to deal and interact with customers. Developed a lot of skills, as well as being more confident. Upper management way to harsh, didn't provide much in the way of help and expected too much from employees managers and coworkers alike. Not busy but stressful. Zumiez is honestly they best place to work at. Zumiez as a company likes to focus on giving the best customer experience possible. Even though a customer pay not buy anything the experience is what they will remember. Me working there i have build on skills that i can use in any work environment.
Management is amazing!! In addition management motives you to take initiative then comes to problem solving. Zumiez work culture is amazing , my fellow associates are great , easy to work with and communicate.
Pros amazing co workers and management time. Cons can be stressful at times. Jobs at Zumiez. Sales Associate.
Seasonal Sales Associate. Not a good place to work at all. You can tell the boss has no idea what he is doing and has no control over his employees. Life at zumiez is an experience! Zumiez at the bottom end is a stressless, fun, job to have. It was very laid back, fun place to be.
You come in, fold some cloths, hangout with another person working, and chat with random customers! It is when you take it seriously, that the job can get less enjoyable. There is very little room to grow, low wages, and you'd be lucky if you get full time! While being there, it will be the best memories out of a work place i will probably ever have! Just don't over stay your welcome, and make everyday fun and enjoyable! This company is ridiculously silly.
Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No. Relaxed work environment, very friendly. Most of the day is joking with coworkers and talking with customers, cleaning was a side duty compared to the social aspects. The management appreciated a more relaxed approach to sales so that the customers didn't feel they were talking to robots. Where do I begin?! This whole place is a zoo. The entire company is a joke. The system is from Don't even think that's legal.
Pros Discount, stress free, fun. Cons Minimum wage, low comissions. I loved working at zumiez. The sales model is easy to understand as well. Pros No uniform. Cons Sales quota. Managers are the only ones who work more than 3 days. Paychecks every 2 weeks at most due to the pay being 7. However, fun work environment and pretty easy. A lot of folding constantly and having to nag customers in order to get your unrealistic sales goal for the day. Cons No breaks, No hours, Low pay.
Leave a review. Help people like you. So fun! Such a fun work environment and awesome co-workers and managers. It was my first real job and taught me so much about customer service and basic retail responsibilities. Biggest mistake I made was quitting! Toxic work environment. There is nothing more fake than working for this company. Don't judge a book by its cover when you are a customer and you see employees looking happy they're not.
Pros Anime. Yes There are 1 helpful reviews 1 No. You get to learn a lot of things from providing customer service to organizing and styling the walls of the store. My co-workers and the general vibe of the store were pretty chill. This job is a good place to start if you want to be social in a job setting.
Your employee experience will depend on your district manager Store Manager Former Employee - Connecticut - September 29, My first district manager was great and made me really enjoy my job. I was given clear sense of direction and felt appreciated for the work I put in. Even when work was stressful as retail jobs notoriously are it was still oddly enjoyable because of the culture and empowering environment. As a manager you are expected to recruit, interview, hire, train, process freight, merchandise the store, execute floor plans and self-scan inventories, complete markdowns, transfers, and receivings, prevent theft, never miss a customer, write schedules, etc… for the absolute minimum pay.
Great environment, great customers, and even better employees made up for the work overload. Once I moved to a different location under a different district manager, my employee experience became horrible. I was given zero direction and felt extremely unappreciated. The culture from my 2nd DM was way different than my first. There was nothing to balance out the bad.
It was just bad. The worst part of the job is definitely loss prevention. You are expected to maintain a great inventory score with no help from the company. No cameras, no sensor detectors. This mindset around loss prevention made me paranoid of my customers and made it difficult to enjoy my job. Wage compensation is so low because - more Pros Great progression opportunities and discounts.
Cons Hit or miss with management. Loss Prevention. Extremely underplayed. Augustine, FL - September 27, I was immediately met with compassion and inclusion. Pros Flexible schedule, good discount, great coworkers, amazing environment, fun place to work, good first job. Cons Can be stressful when busy, on your feet most of the time, corporate and lp are slow to respond. Jobs at Zumiez. Sales Associate. Seasonal sales associate. Part Time Sales Associate.
Fun at first, quickly becomes a dead end job. I was there for 2 years as an assistant manager. Before working at zumiez I already had 2 years prior management experience and took a 2. There were other issues at hand as far as management went at the time, but after not being compensated for what I considered going above and beyond in my job, I simply could not do it for the love anymore.
Pros Flexible schedule, fun work environment. Cons Terrible pay, management. A good job while in school but past that it won't hardly cover Netflix. Typically you just fold clothes and talk to people but due to it being heavily commission based its very competitive and your boss gets on your case if you aren't selling by the "Zumiez steps".
Pros cool people. Cons low pay. I personally did not enjoy working in retail, but my manager provided a framework that allowed me to perfect my sales skills. My coworkers were very down to earth and kind. Each location could be different, but I was taken advantage of. The excuse was "that's how it was when I was a first ASM" Someone had the opportunity to fix the culture and instead decided to benefit from it instead.
Pros T shirt and jeans. Cons I felt unpaid and undervalued. Zumiez used to be a place of incredibly strong cultural values and priorities. Employee's are being overworked, everyone is taking on way more than they should and every persons health physical and mental is in serious jeopardy.
They used to have a handle on it but when you take away their huge events and fair recognition it has turned into the most toxic and stressful workplace where you're expected to meet goals that are now unrealistic with limited resources and not enough pay.
I don't understand how anyone can feel happy about their job here right now. Pros Competition, Free Stuff from vendors, wear what you want. Cons Work-life balance, pay, bosses not leaders. Zumiez feels like it is run by stoners. I'm sure teens and young 20s might love it, but for grown adults Most employees seem to be late all the time. Pros Discount on skate gear. Cons Everything about their delivery driver.
Wouldn't recommend working here unless you wanna be taken advantage of for terrible pay.
