We have averaged 5 months a year RVing consisting of 1 turnaround trip lasting about a month to bring the RV south before the snow flys and to see parts of the country that are not very RVable in the winter.
The second trip is a Snowbird Flight to the south for the winter. We always RV towing a car. My motorhome gets 6. I am facinated by the importance new RVers put on the ability to stay in big state and National parks. In our eight years RVing we have toured most of the National parks and many state parks. That is because A driving an RV around in a park is much harder and much more annoying for other visitors than driving a small Toyota, B Most campgrounds in parks do not offer full hookups and WIFI.
I do not view myself as a camper but an RVer. When we stayed in Big Bend for a week they did not have electrical hookups. The hours for running a generator were 8 AM to 8 PM prime time for touring the park , how do you run your generator to recharge your house batteries if you do not get back hours before 8 PM? Or do you annoy your neighboring campers by running the generator all day while you are gone?
We normally stay outside the parks and drive in with our toad. Of course when RVing 5 months a year the majority of our time is not spent in National or state parks that limit the length of your RV. I think a new RVer needs to evaluate what they expect to use their RV for to help make the decision.
These are very lightweight trailers that consist both of a solid base plastic, metal, etc. For us, this was a very difficult decision. We took an absolute age trying to decide which motorhome to go for. As we were buying a secondhand motorhome we had a definite decision on the make and running gear we wanted. This only left us with a particular model so we had narrowed it down to a Hymer B which is an A class the B in the number is just to confuse things and a which was a C class.
We wanted these particular models for a few reasons. It also has another 2 doubles which are more than we required, 4 berths were all we really required with a bit of space. The only real problem with this model is the length, its a big bus at just over 6m 6m or about 18ft will be a toy in the US but the roads in the UK are much smaller than the roads in the US, so much so that 6m is quite big.
The is a bit shorter than the B which would make it easier to drive. The had the layout we wanted, it had 4 berths with bunk beds along one side which means that the beds can be set up permanently, ideal for long-term travel, but there were a few problems. These layouts are extremely rare, I have seen a few but not many.
They are also a C class and we prefer the shape and the extra space in the A class. In the end, we went for the as the just never came up for us to buy and we were keen to get moving.
