Why is ratchet the only lombax

Firstly, they're from Fastoon of the Polaris Galaxy. They were one of the most advanced civilizations in the known universe, with technology far exceeding their time and the other species of that era. They also had a fierce military with the Praetorian Guard, a band of elite warriors who Alister Azimuth was a part of.

That name should sound familiar: he's the Lombax we would go on to meet in A Crack in Time, and a pivotal player in their disappearance. At some point in their history, they got into a war with the Cragmite empire. This was aptly dubbed the Great War, and it wasn't particularly going anywhere.

Both sides were equal in power and scope, and neither was gaining a foothold over the other and so the Center for Advanced Lombax Research began to develop a new weapon, something that could turn the tide and bring victory in one fell swoop. This was the Dimensionator. Upon its creation, the Lombaxes unleashed it on the Cragmites, banishing them to another dimension, leaving them the sole victors.

The Polaris galaxy hailed them as saviors, and they found peace for a short time. Years after the war ended and peace had washed over the galaxy, the Lombaxes discovered a Cragmite egg in the Trillium mines. They raised the spawn as one of their own, calling him Percival Tachyon, the would-be antagonist of Tools of Destruction. He was far more advanced than even the people raising him, creating weaponry and devices exceeding their own technological capabilities tenfold, and this scared the Lombaxes.

Why he didn't destroy it escapes me, but maybe he figured Ratchet could find them one day. The Dimensionator was a large helmet that allowed for travel between dimensions, as the name would suggest. He died protecting the location of the device, which had been used to get rid of Tachyon's species as well as Ratchet's.

Now, it's in the possession of Nefarious. Not the best of hands to have it in, but at least he isn't interested in finding the lombaxes. He just wants to find a galaxy where he never loses. The Lombaxes were known to be "noble" and "courageous". They also enjoyed creating and modifying weapons, along with high-speed racing, and chasing, and were good at problem solving and lock-picking. Lombaxes were known throughout the galaxy for their technological tendencies, and couldn't leave anything unmodified, according the the Unnamed Smuggler. Lombaxes had alot of military companies and were capable of intense warfare.

Some of their companies were grand, and were known throughout the galaxy. The original location of these companies were in Fastoon, Polaris. They were known to have the best and most effecient warriors. All of the Cragmite were gone, but one egg: the Lombaxes decided to keep the egg and raise the Cragmite hatchling on their own, naming him Percival Tachyon.

When Tachyon secretly learned about what the Lombaxes had done to his race he swore vengeance. At the time, Alister Azimuth feared the state of the galaxy was at risk, and he wanted to protect it in more efficient ways. He granted Tachyon access to Lombax technology, but he built his Imperial Army instead, killing hundreds of Lombaxes before they could flee using the Dimensionator themselves. Alister was exiled, and in the game, he reveals to Ratchet his plan to gain control of the Great Clock to turn back time and change the past.

Things don't go exactly to plan, and Alister ends up sacrificing his life in order to stop his own plan, as it could bear irreversible damage to time and the whole universe.
